Our 6-hour Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course provides learners with the practical skills and confidence to respond to common workplace emergencies. Delivered face-to-face by experienced trainers, the course is suitable for organisations that need trained emergency first aiders in the workplace. Training is delivered at your premises for groups of up to 12 learners, with courses available across the UK.

Who is Emergency First Aid at Work training for?
Emergency First Aid at Work training is suitable for organisations that require employees to act as emergency first aiders in the workplace. It is commonly chosen for lower-risk workplaces and for organisations where a first aid needs assessment identifies EFAW as an appropriate level of training.The course is suitable for employees in a wide range of settings, including offices, hospitality, retail, care services, warehouses and other workplaces.
What does the EFAW course cover?
The course covers the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to respond to common workplace first aid emergencies, including:
- Roles and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
- Assessing an incident and carrying out a primary survey
- CPR and use of an AED
- Recovery position
- Choking
- Seizures
- Managing bleeding and shock
- Minor injuries
- When and how to call the emergency services
- Keeping yourself and others safe during a first aid incident
How is the EFAW course assessed?
Learners are assessed throughout the course through practical demonstrations, tutor questioning and knowledge checks. Practical skills such as CPR, use of an AED, recovery position and management of choking are assessed through observation by the trainer.
EFAW certificate and validity
Learners who successfully complete the course will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 3 years. Annual refresher training is recommended to help first aiders maintain their knowledge and practical skills.
EFAW training at your workplace
We deliver Emergency First Aid at Work training at your premises, allowing your team to learn together in a familiar workplace environment. Our trainers bring the first aid training equipment needed for the course, including equipment for practical CPR and AED training. You will need to provide a suitable room with enough space for learners to take part safely in the practical activities. We can discuss any specific requirements with you before the training date.
Prerequisites for EFAW training
No previous first aid experience is required. Learners should be able to understand the course content and participate safely in the practical activities, including CPR and casualty-positioning exercises. Reasonable adjustments can be considered where required, provided they do not compromise the assessment requirements or the learner’s ability to demonstrate the required first aid skills safely.
