Basic Life Support (BLS) Course
Our half-day Basic Life Support (BLS) course provides learners with the practical skills and confidence to respond to a collapsed casualty and other life-threatening emergencies. The course includes practical training in CPR, safe use of an AED, the recovery position and management of choking.Training is delivered face-to-face at your workplace for organisations across the UK.

Who is Basic Life Support training for?
Basic Life Support training is suitable for anyone who may need to respond to a collapsed casualty or other life-threatening emergency. It is particularly relevant for healthcare staff, care workers and other employees who require practical CPR and emergency response skills as part of their role.The course can also be delivered to workplace teams who want to develop essential life-saving skills and confidence in responding to an emergency.
What does the BLS course cover?
The course provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to respond to a collapsed casualty and other life-threatening emergencies, including:
- Primary survey and checking for normal breathing
- CPR for adults
- Safe use of an AED
- Recovery position
- Management of choking
- Recognising and responding to a collapsed casualty
- Calling the emergency services and providing clear information
- Maintaining personal safety during an emergency
How is the BLS course assessed?
Learners are assessed throughout the course through practical demonstrations, tutor questioning and knowledge checks. Practical skills including CPR, safe use of an AED, the recovery position and management of choking are assessed through observation by the trainer.
BLS certificate and validity
Learners who successfully complete the course will receive a Basic Life Support certificate, valid for 1 year. Refresher training is recommended annually to help learners maintain their knowledge, confidence and practical resuscitation skills.
BLS training at your workplace
We deliver Basic Life Support training at your premises, allowing your team to learn together in a familiar workplace environment. Our trainers bring the equipment needed for the practical session, including CPR manikins and AED training equipment.You will need to provide a suitable room with enough space for learners to take part safely in the practical activities. We can discuss any specific requirements with you before the training date.
Prerequisites for BLS training
No previous Basic Life Support or First Aid experience is required. Learners should be able to understand the course content and participate safely in the practical activities, including CPR and casualty-positioning exercises.Reasonable adjustments can be considered where required, provided they do not compromise the assessment requirements or the learner’s ability to demonstrate the required practical skills safely.
